Eligibility Requirements

You can only apply for a work permit from inside Canada if:

  • You possess a valid study permit or work permit.

  • Your spouse, common-law partner, or parents hold a valid study or work permit.

  • You qualify for a work permit following your graduation, provided that your study permit remains valid.

  • You have a temporary residence permit that is valid for six months or longer.

  • You are currently waiting for a decision regarding your application for permanent residency in Canada.

  • You have submitted a request for refugee protection.

  • You have been recognized as a convention refugee or protected individual by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

  • You are permitted to work in Canada without a work permit; however, you will need a work permit for employment in an additional job (this does not apply to business visitors).
